We recently discovered, and are pleased to share that Reused Remade is included as an example in Service Innovation and Management: Digitalization, Service Infusion and Customer Experience, published by Springer in 2025 and edited at CTF, the Service Research Center at Karlstad University.
The book brings together the latest research from CTF and is written as guidance for managers and students building service businesses. In chapter 7, “Enabling a Circular Economy Through Green Service Strategies,” Klas Hedvall and Lars Witell look at how services create the conditions for businesses and their customers to create value together in a circular economy. They explore three approaches: extending product life, dematerialization and replacing service systems.
To illustrate extending product life in the textile industry, the authors use the R-strategies framework by Potting et al. (2017), which ranges from refuse (R0) to recover (R9). One of these strategies is repurposing (R7): using material from existing products in new ways. On page 93, Reused Remade is the example. The authors describe how we turn retired hotel bed linen into products such as bags and makeup pads.
What we find especially interesting is the chapter’s focus on cooperation. The authors show that circular practices work best when every participant plays its part, from the business returning material to the company giving it a new purpose. That reflects what we see in our daily work.
The book is open access, so it’s free for anyone to read and share.
